June 2002

June that unlovely month where winter anouces its here the longest night trips round and thoughts turn to walking in the hills.

The birth of pGal began in June when at the urgings of James I finally started cutting code for pGal.

pGal was an idea long in the making. It had started life as i struggled with the Lorne Surf Club Web Site. A site where I used a clever templating system, whose complexity often threatened to overwhelm me. The template system prolifereated files like ritcheous pollies around a bankrupt company.

pGal would make content management easy and my life as a web master one of long lunches followed by drinks with umbrellas and the adulation of friend and foe.

Mid June

PGal is begining to take shape. It produces galleries which look satisfactory and the template idea is proving to be workable. All the templates are driven by inline java tags and i want them to be driven by Tag Libraries

The editing interface is coming along but is still hard to use. Documents are the next thing to tackle

I have refactored photo so that it is called Work and made photos and documents inherit from this ancestor. Work is probably a poor name. the refactoring places the system so that other datatypes can be addedd fairly straightforwardly.

Bulk uploading now works correctly though it remains hard coded to various windows drives much to Jame's disgust.

25th June

We have headed off for a weekend photography in the clouds. My first bush walk in years. I still want to call it a tramp but i guess I must change.

The walk is written up here as a short article. See the Grampinas topic in the menu. It was great as for the first time in a long time I had a pack on my back and was walking albeit not far or fast.
